ECOTOURISM

For nature lovers, Coquimbo has the ideal scenarios for excursions throughout the day. There are five coastal wetlands that are located between the town of Tongoy and Puerto Aldea, plus one in the port of Coquimbo. All are part of the coastal wetland system: Estero de Tongoy, Salinas Chicas, Salinas Grande, Los Litres, Pachingo and El Culebrón respectively.

These, in turn, integrate the Coastal Wetlands network of the semi-arid zone of central Chile, for possessing a biodiversity of Regional importance in Latin America, being particularly valuable sites, which fulfill an important function as a place of rest and feeding of numerous species and that in addition, they have been highlighted as wintering areas for Neotropical migratory birds.
