DOME: THE ANIMAS CULTURE MUSEUM

DOME: THE ANIMAS CULTURE MUSEUM

It is a museum site that exhibits replicas of the vestiges of the Las Animas Culture that lived in the area between 900 and 1200 AD, precursor of the Diaguita people.

Inside its representing celestial universe cupola, the dome keeps the archaeological place discovered in 1981 as a result of the diggings that were being making in there for the restructuring to the square. These cultural traces since 800 A.C belong to the so-called cultural centre Animas and, correspond to a ceremonial location with graves.

In the 36 founded graves, three of them belong to a family, in where objects like plates with decoration and black colours on their backgrounds –red, orange, cream, yellow, were found. The surfaces were painted in four parts, which means that Animas peoples express with the idea of fourth part division of the world and, probably with spiritual faith of the Ascension.

It is located in the Gabriela Mistral Square, next to Main Square.

The attention of the public is from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and its entrance is for free. More information on (51) 2 317006.
